Founded in 1996 by conductor Avip Priatna, Batavia Madrigal Singers is one of the finest vocal ensembles in Indonesia.

The choir’s music spans the classical, popular, baroque, modern, contemporary, secular and sacred, as well as beautifully-choreographed Indonesian traditional folk songs.

Since its inception Batavia Madrigal Singers has achieved accolades and awards at more than thirty major choral events. They made history in 2011 by winning five awards at the 57th International Contest of Habaneras and Polyphony; this was the best performance by any choir in the contest’s lifetime.

The ensemble was highly praised for their quality and purity of sound following a grand champion win at the 2016 Tolosa Choral Contest.

The choristers are a a diverse mix of ages, ethnicities, occupations and religions and say they are most looking forward to meeting new friends, making music together, sharing their music and learning from others at WSCM2020.
