12th World Symposium on Choral Music

Is the WSCM2020 for me?

Find yourself at the World Symposium on Choral Music...

The World Symposium on Choral Music is the premier international meeting place for conductors, singers, composers, accompanists, educators, academics, and everyone else who loves choral music. It is a global festival, congress and trade exhibition rolled into one.

Since its début in Vienna in 1987, this triennial event has continued to spread in reputation and influence from one significant world city to the next. Come July 2020, Auckland will host 24 choirs and over 40 distinguished choral practitioners, all responding in their concerts and presentations to a common theme: People and the Land \ He tangata, he whenua.

If you’re still wondering whether or not to come, we encourage you to find yourself in one (or more than one!) of the attendee profiles below:

Industry members

The Symposium is for the choral professionals who run the world, or at least our vibrant and exciting corner of it! These are the people who lead, disrupt and inspire our choirs and are tied together through the love of singing in harmony. WSCM2020 is a gold-wrapped opportunity for industry members to share what they're working on and learn from their peers.

Creatives running on empty

Most choral practitioners dedicate huge time and energy to their choirs, regions, communities and research. Their dedication is wonderful but eventually the reserves that fuel it are bound to run dry; without a significant top-up, our leaders may have nothing left to give. Gaining new inspiration and accessing different ways of thinking about old issues can make all the difference.

A WSCM doesn't roll around very often, so you can't afford to miss it when it does. Don't just take our word for it; Tim Sharp, Debra Shearer-Dirié and Sonja Greiner agree with us.

Multigenerational leaders and dreamers

The Symposium is a mixing pot of cultures and creative ideas that strengthen the choral community, both in theory and practice.

From the choirs selected and the delegates who have registered to date, WSCM2020 will welcome singers and conductors from every kind of choral group imaginable, including children’s, school, youth, university, community, ethnic, church, civic, chamber and professional choirs and ensembles.

Spanning a wide range of ages, WSCM2020 provides a forum for both the experienced and the learning practitioner to gain inspiration, knowledge and renewed energy across an eight-day feast of concerts, seminars, masterclasses, workshops, demonstrations and exhibitions. From the youngest to the oldest attendee, there's a whole lot for everyone.
